Finally a Blogworthy topic....OR, A Sign of the Apocalypse?
Maybe I like mushrooms now.

So, I voluntarily had mushrooms not once, but twice (yes, twice!) this week--two consecutive days--and I think I kinda liked them. I used to like sauteed mushrooms many many years ago, like in 1988, but since then I have strenuously avoided them. I think in the last couple of years I have tried them a couple of times to see if maybe my taste had changed (because for several items it has--there are many things I like now that at one time I didn't) but until this week, no luck with mushrooms. As recently as this summer, I failed to enjoy a mushroom ravioli in a sun-dried tomato-cream sauce.

My housemate commented that they tend to take on the flavor of whatever they're cooked with, so perhaps that's what helped this time. On one occasion the mushrooms were sauteed with onions and a bit of butter, and on the other they were part of a tasy Kung Pao Tofu meal.

I guess I'm willing to try mushrooms in a stirfry or on a pizza now, or perhaps on a veggie burger, but I think raw mushrooms in a salad would still be gross. Also, I think a portabello sandwich or entree is still out because that's just a lot of mushroom all at once. One step at a time, people, and let's make sure there aren't texture issues.
