Radio 2: Making life a little more surreal
- In the 8 o'clock hour, I heard a "While my guitar gently weeps," followed by a classical guitar version of "Stairway to Heaven" followed by a Django Reinhardt track. Cool! The "dj" also sounded ancient, so it was a special thrill hearing him extol the virtues of Clapton's solo (I expected him to quote some bon mot from the Churchill-Disraeli rivalry).
- In the 9 o'clock hour, I heard Finlandia played on an organ. Cool! As it turned out, the whole show was organ music. Me being me, I enjoyed it more than not.
- At 9:30--a documentary about Barry Manilow. Part 2 of 2. I am not making this up!!!! It wasn't even a joke! They delivered the lines "To speak of Manilow's rejuvenation suggests he went away at some point. He never went away." Like the boogeyman! And "In summary, Manilow's career has been marked by a series of musical compromises leading to success." With a straight face they said this!
When you're publicly funded by the government, you don't have to worry about coolness, I guess.
